Above & Below

Egypt has been settled for more than 6000 years and has served as home to numerous civilizations.  The Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the colossal temples of Karnack are all internationally known monuments.

Over 6.5 million people live in Cairo alone.  This figure should peak some curiosity.  Instead, Egypt’s capital is left in the shadows of her country’s rich ancient history.

The project Above and Below is an exploration of Egyptian urban life, with a focus on Cairo.  Many of the photographs in this essay were taken on the Al Mousqui Blvd.  This blvd. is one of many streets that bring you to a famous old market in Cairo called Khan Khalili.

I walked this blvd. many times and was inspired visually by its structures and by its people.
